Nam Cheong wins $36.8m contract to sell three AHTS vessels
Singapore: Malaysia-based shipbuilder Nam Cheong clinched $36.8m worth of contracts to sell three anchor handling towing supply (AHTS) vessels to new customers from Singapore.

Two of the 5,000 bhp AHTS vessels will be deployed in South America and one to the Asia-Pacific region, Nam Cheong announced on Thursday.

The offshore vessels are being constructed as part of Nam Cheong's build-to-stock series. The vessels are slated to be delivered in the second and third quarters of 2012.

“High, resilient oil prices averaging above $100 per barrel for the past few months has continued to spur oil majors to increase exploration and production spending, allowing Nam Cheong to benefit from the increased in demand for offshore support vessels,” said Leong Seng Keat, executive director at Nam Cheong.

“In addition, our vessels, which are constructed under the build-to-stock programme, offer significantly lesser lead time between order and delivery and place us in a sweet spot where we will be able to respond swiftly to the hike in demand,” he added.

Singapore-listed Nam Cheong's current orderbook stands at approximately MYR628m ($204.7m), comprising 12 units of vessels, which are scheduled for delivery stretching until the end of 2012.
