The 2006-built handymax, named V1, will be acquired from Japan-based Itochu Corporation and be delivered within the first quarter of this year.
“The board considers that the vessels can be purchased or built at attractive prices and that they will be beneficially employed within the group's fleet for the long term after they are delivered,” Pacific Basin said.
Last year, the dry bulk shipowner had bought two newbuilding handysizes and one 2003-built handysize from Itochu. The price of the newbuildings is $23.27m each and the 2003-built handysize costs $13.7m.
