Pelindo III's ports in East Java, Central Java, Bali, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara play a central role in ferrying commodities and people between Kalimantan, Bali and Indonesia's eastern islands. The increase was attributed to the stricter implementation of the country's cabotage law.
The busiest port was Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan, which recorded 7,995 calls, followed by Pelabuhan Kotabaru, also in South Kalimantan, which booked 4,184 visits. Pelindo III said the rise in Kalimantan especially was due to increasing mining activities on the island.
