Hong Kong: PSA Dongguan Container Terminal (PSA DGCT), an important gateway to Southern China located on the Pearl River, welcomed its  first direct international liner service last week. PIL's 1,334 TEU 24,689dwt vessel Koja Wijaya became the first international liner call on September 17. The weekly PIL RS3 service calls at Dongguan, Huangpu, Nansha, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung and Taichung.

"We are pleased to have this opportunity to work with PSA DGCT to start this new service  to tap direct into the enormous Dongguan market," said Jack Sun, General Manager of PIL  Shenzhen Branch (Pacific International Lines (China) Ltd).

"Dongguan's shippers will now be able to avail themselves to shipping  services which call direct at PSA DGCT and save transportation and logistics cost," added  Chris Li, General Manager of PSA DGCT. "With  14.3 meters draft alongside, PSA DGCT is able to accommodate container ships of up to  6,000 TEU capacity." PSA DGCT deploys state-of-the-art equipment including 4 post-panamax quay cranes and  9 rubber-tyred gantry cranes, as well as an on-dock bonded warehouse, he added.  [21/09/09]
