EMAS will use the system on its 22,000 dwt ultra deepwater pipelay/heavy lift/construction vessel DP3, Lewek Constellation, which is being built in Vung Tau, Vietnam.
Severn Trent De Nora said Balpure is the first ballast water treatment system ordered by EMAS, a global offshore oil and gas specialist.
The Balpure system ordered by EMAS will be supplied in sub-assemblies for installation in the pipelay vessel by April 2012. The system is capable of treating ballast water flow rates of up to 2,000 cubic metres per hour.
“We have just completed installing Balpure on two Japanese built and owned bulk carriers in January 2012 and have a healthy pipeline of enquiries for our system,” said Jim McGillivray, Balpure general manager for Severn Trent De Nora.
The company said that Balpure offers a virtually maintenance-free approach to ballast water treatment through the use of proprietary self-cleaning electrodes that eliminate the need for chemical and mechanical maintenance, which could otherwise be time consuming for ships' crews.
