SHI wins $625m drillship order from Ensco
Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) clinched an order worth some $625m to construct a DP3 ultra-deepwater drillship for New York-listed Ensco.

The drillship is scheduled for delivery during the third quarter of 2015. The contract includes an option for an additional drillship of the same design.

The drillship, Ensco DS-10, will be the eighth Samsung DP3 drillship in the Ensco fleet. Two more units currently under construction are slated to be delivered to Ensco in 2014.

“We continue to see very strong demand for rigs in existing deepwater markets, along with growing demand from emerging exploration areas,” said Dan Rabun, chairman, president and ceo of Ensco.

The new drillship will be able to drill in water depths of up to 12,000 feet and drill a total vertical depth of 40,000 feet.
