Sino-Japanese yard delivers first newbuilding

Shanghai: Rihua Shipbuilding, a Sino-Japanese joint venture that runs a shipyard in Nantong, China, delivered its first newbuilding, a 29,200-dwt bulker, to German owner Aug Bolten on April 23, reports the Kaiji Press. The Western Wave is to be chartered out to NYK Global Bulk Corp., a Handysize bulker unit of Japan's Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) group. Rihua had been engaged in the construction of a factory to manufacture hull blocks for newbuildings. It built the Western Wave, using a slipway of Yahua Shipbuilding, the Chinese partner in the joint venture.
Rihua Shipbuilding was set up in 2006 by Osaka-based Nakanishi Kikai Kogyosho (machinery works) and Yahua of Nantong. [28/04/08]
