South Korea: The CKYH container shipping line alliance is to introduce slow steaming on its Asia - Europe services. The alliance, comprising Cosco Container Lines, K Line, Yang Ming Line and Hanjin Shipping, started partial slow steaming on its Asia - Mediterranean MD2 service in December and will now be extending this to three other eastbound Asia - Europe services by February 11.
"Slow steaming will be implemented on the eastbound, and these measures are expected to increase eco-friendliness by reducing CO2 emission," Hanjin Shipping said. The alliance revealed slow steaming would introduced on its two remaining Asia - Europe and Mediteranean loops during in the first half the year. [26-01-10]
