Thorsen Thai plunges into the red

Thorsen Thai plunges into the red
Bangkok: Thoresen Thai Agencies (TTA) slumped into the red in the first quarter of its financial year on a weak dry bulk market. TTA reported a first quarter net loss of THB560m for the first quarter ended 31 December 2011, compared to THB145m profit in the same period a year earlier. Revenues were down 26% year-on-year at THB3.39bn.

The company said revenues dropped mainly due a 55% drop in dry freight rates and the reduction of the company’s fleet to an equivalent of 16.6 full time vessels and the disruption to coal sales caused by flooding Thailand.

TTA said the majority of the losses in the first quarter stemmed from the write-off of management and commitment fees on 2007 syndicated loan and further impairment of assets under construction.
