China Merchants Energy Shipping is to build two bulk carriers and two multi-purpose vessels from China Merchants Industry.

The $160 million in contracts consist of two 82,000 dwt bulk carriers and a pair of 62,000 dwt multi-purpose vessels, which are scheduled for delivery in 2026 at the yards operated by China Merchants Industry.

“The latest environment-friendly and energy-saving vessels will optimise the company’s Panamax fleet structure and improve cargo transportation capacity of multi-purpose vessel. Investment in the newbuilds will increase the company’s bulk cargo fleet’s profitability amid the aging bulker fleet market globally” according to China Merchants Energy Shipping.

As the end of November 2023, the company operates a fleet of 306 vessels (newbuilding orders included) with a total carrying capacity of 44.69 million dwt.
