CMB in containership foray, acquires Delphis fleet

CMB in containership foray, acquires Delphis fleet
Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB) has bought Delphis' fleet of 14 container ships for $2.2m and the assumption of an undisclosed amount of debt.

The deal covers Delphis' seven fully-owned vessels and the company's stake in seven ships owned in joint ventures. Seven of the 14 ships are of ice class 1A, and six of those are the largest ice class ships in the world and on long term charter with Maersk.

As Delphis is a fully-owned subsidiary of Saverco, a CMB reference sharholder, an independent committee of directors assessed the proposed transaction. The deal is still subject to approval from creditor banks, but CMB expects to close the acquisitiong in early 2015.

The latest box ships join two 2,000 teu newbuildings ordered in December from Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction for delivery in May and June 2016, and a pair of secondhand 4,100 teu panamaxes built in Korea in 2004 and 2006 and due to be delivered in early 2015.
