GasLog orders two LNG carriers at Samsung Heavy Industries

GasLog orders two LNG carriers at Samsung Heavy Industries
GasLog has ordered two 174,000-cu m LNG carriers from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), with options for an additional four more units.

The two firm newbuildings are expected to be delivered in 2017, and the pair is sister vessels to an earlier four units ordered in 2013 for delivery in 2016.

In addition, GasLog has clinched two additional options from SHI with delivery dates in late-2017 and early-2018. Further, if the shipowner exercises these two options, the shipyard has agreed to grant two additional options.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are delighted to be ordering additional highly attractive LNG carriers,” said Paul Wogan, ceo of GasLog.

“It positions GasLog to continue to benefit from the long term secular growth of the LNG market.

The SHI-built LNG vessels will be equipped with proven tri-fuel diesel electric propulsion with the option to change to two-stroke diesel engines with low-pressure gas injection.
