Technology innovation in focus in MOL restructuring

Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), one of Japan's big three shipowners, is undertaking a restructuring of its organisation that includes a new technical innovation unit.

The wide ranging restructuring of MOL's organisation from 1 April this year sees the establishment of the technical innovation unit under the chief technical officer and it will oversee the technical division, smart shipping division and MOL information systems.

A new corporate marketing division will also have a role in the technology sector with one its tasks to plan digital strategies using ICT and new technologies that link customer and MOL group needs.

In terms of market sectors, the tanker business will be split into two divisions one focusing on crude tankers the other on product and methanol tankers. A new ferry business division will also be established.

A new role of chief financial officer is also being created to supervise planning of strategies and measures to promote optimal group-wide funding and financial strategies.

Regionally new chief executive representatives will be established in North, Middle Americas & the Caribbean, and South America in place of chief country representative, North America.
