At the same time, the consortium has concluded an agreement with South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries to build the 173,000 cu m vessel.
The charter is over a period of 19 years after the launch of the LNG carrier in September 2016. The newbuilding will be deployed in the Gorgon LNG project.
PLL is India's first importer of LNG, and it is using three LNG carriers at present.
The four-company consortium also operates the three vessels already in service, and it said in a joint statement that it will “continue to ensure a steady supply of LNG to India, where energy demand continues to grow.”
