Keppel bags $227m jack-up rig order plus two options from GDI
Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) has inked a contract with Gulf Drilling International (GDI) for a $227m jack-up rig with options for two more.

The KFELs B-Class design rig is the fifth that Qatar-based GDI has ordered from Keppel, and the rig to be named Halul is due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2016 for a five-year charter to Qatar Petroleum. The rig will be built at Keppel FELS in Singapore.

The options for two more B-Class rigs are for delivery in 2017. “The KFELS B- Class has established itself as a reliable high specification jack-up rig for the Middle East with more than 10 such rigs successfully operating there,” said Wong Kok Seng, managing director of Keppel O&M.

Keppel also has an on the ground presence in Qatar through its 20% stake in the Nakilat-Keppel O&M yard, which it manages.

"Besides the newbuild jackups, our shipyard in Qatar, Nakilat-Keppel O&M, is also supporting GDI with the construction of a liftboat and the repair and maintenance of their rig fleet,” Wong said.

Last month Keppel delivered its fourth jack-up rig newbuilding, Dukham, to GDI.
