The port of Bitung has been added to bi-weekly service that serves Tanjung Pelepas, Torres Strait, Port Moresby, Port Noro, Lae and Bitung. The first sailing from Bitung was on Monday.
The new service shortens the transit time to connect to mainline services in PTP from 12 days to seven days. Previously exports from East Indonesia were transhipped at Jakarta on local feeders.
“The direct service will increase efficiency around the supply chain of exporters in this part of Indonesia, contributing to more competitive products,” said Jakob Sorensen, president director of Maersk Line Indonesia.
