The new direct service will call Nhava Sheva in Mumbai and Doha Port in India. Unlike existing services there will be no need for transhipment at other ports such as Jebel Ali, and the reduced transit time could open up new perishable commodity segments between India and Qatar, Milaha said.
“The launch of a fast and direct container service by Milaha will support the increasing trade volume, where imports into Qatar from India reached a total value of $989m in 2013-2014,” Khalifa Ali Al-Hetmi, president and ceo of Milaha.
The company added the new service would strengthen its feeder network with the UAE.
