Sinopacific launches new bulker capable of 13% fuel savings
Yangzhou: Chinese firm Sinopacific Shipbuilding delivered its first energy-efficient 63,500 dwt bulk carrier capable of offering savings of up to $800,000 a year in fuel costs.

The inhouse designed Crown63 bulker is tested to be able to reduce fuel consumption by 13% while maintaining the original speed, and increase loading capacity of 9%, according to Sinopacific.

“The debut of the lead ship of Crown63 series indicates another milestone achievement of Sinopacific's strategic practice of focusing on niche markets and areas with high entrance level and technology barrier,” said Simon Liang, chairman and ceo of Sinopacific.

Liang also revealed that the company has recently entered into a cooperation with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to jointly design a 82,000 dwt kamsarmax bulk carrier.

Zhao Ye, chief technology officer of Sinopacific, said that despite the decline of the world shipping market, new ships with improved fuel efficiency will continue to be welcomed by shipowners regardless of market conditions.
