Wisdom Marine booked two 115,000-dwt tankers at Japan Marine United Corp at a total price of $100m, or $50m apiece.
From among its current fleet of 109 ships, 13 are supramaxes and the rest are bulk carriers of mostly handsizes. The latest order will be the company’s first move into the aframax sector.
Wisdom Marine also announced it has acquired a 28,386-dwt handysize bulker at a price of $25.2m from Tiger Gate Holding.
In March this year, the company diversified into the gas business after it placed an order for a 6,400-cu m LPG carrier at Murakami Hide Shipbuilding.
