CMES inks two LNG carrier newbuilds at DSIC

China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) is ordering two 175,000 cu m LNG carriers from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC) at a total cost of $470m.

Delivery schedule of the vessels is in the second half of 2026. 

“Equipped with the most-advanced LNG dual-fuel low-speed engine, the new builds will help the company to fulfill low-carbon and clean energy transportation commitment and are in line with the company’s long-term development strategy,” said CMES.

China Merchants Energy Shipping mainly operates LNG fleet via is unit CMLNG and CLNG, the joint venture formed with Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation. China Merchants LNG currently has 12 large-size LNG carrier orders which will start delivery from 2024. 

In the first three quarters of 2022, CMES reported a net profit of RMB496m for LNG transportation sector, increasing by around 11.46% year-on-year.
