Guangzhou Longxue on track for first deliveries

Guangzhou: A prestige project of China State Shipbuilding Corporation is on course to deliver its first mammoth ships on time. CSSC Guangzhou Longxue Shipbuilding, the largest shipyard ever built south of Shanghai, will deliver a very large ore carrier and a 308,000 dwt very large crude carrier to China Shipping as scheduled in Q4 next year, officials from Guangzhou told Seatrade Asia Online. The pair will be the first ships ever delivered by the yard.
It was back in late 2004 that work started on the construction of the yard. Two huge drydocks - 480m by 106m and 480m by 96m - were completed. It now boasts an orderbook of some 80 ships. As well as domestic owners Guangzhou Longxue has some foreign owners on its books including Norden with a pair of 82,000 dwt bulkers.  On November 15, Premier Wen Jiabao visited the facility.
