Shanghai's boxport throughput drops in February
Shanghai: Shanghai, the world's busiest container port, saw a considerable dip in box throughput in February due to the shorter number of days and the Chinese New Year holidays.

Last month, the Chinese port moved 2.01m teu of containers, a 8.1% drop compared to 2.19m teu seen in February 2012, according to figures released by Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Last month's throughput plunged 31.1% month-on-month compared to 2.92m teu handled in January this year, SIPG data showed.

In the first two months of 2013, Shanghai port registered throughput of 4.93m teu, an increase of 2.5% compared to 4.81m teu recorded in the same period of 2012.

Last year, Shanghai recorded an annual throughput of 32.53m teu, putting the port in first place ahead of its nearest rival Singapore at 31.65m teu.
