Most of the hit came main from Kwai Tsing terminals with volume falling 8.6% to 1.4m teu from 1.6m teu the year before, no doubt taking some pain from the ongoing US West Coast port issues.
This is in contrast to the usual pattern where the non-Kwai Tsing operators usually see the biggest drops in throughput. These operators actually saw a 4.3% increase in January to 400,000 teu from 383,000 teu in the previous corresponding period.
