Solar 1 to be siphoned off

Manila: The remaining oil aboard sunken tanker Solar 1 is to be siphoned off, the Philippines government has announced. The tanker sunk off Guimaras provinve in mid-August causing the Philippines' worst ever oil spill. Separately, a member of the Special Board of Inquiry into the accident is reported in the Manila press to have blamed the sinking on a combination of overloading and rough seas.  [13/09/06]
